We are a family owned and operated ranch in the far northeastern corner of New Mexico. We are committed to operating and living on the land in a sustainable way. Using the Holistic Management framework we produce healthy, nutritious food from healthy animals and landscape in an artful, creative and mindful way. The elevation is about 6400 feet with an annual combined precipitation averaging between 13 and 15 inches. The Dry Cimarron River runs the length of the property and there are perennial ponds and springs.

Vision

We provide "skill-set" applied learning opportunities in sustainable agriculture and local, small scale food production systems.  We will expand our partnerships and collaborative relationships with educational institutions, non-profit organizations and professionals to supplement our expertise and provide accreditation.  We are continually moving the ranch operations and facilities ever closer to complete self-sufficiency by encouraging an atmosphere of creativity and innovation.  We do this by employing the practices of holistic management to all our operations: sustainable ranching, "eco-sensitive" farming and gardening, agro-edu-tourism, and "skill-set" workshops in the areas of riparian and uplands conservation and restoration, goat and other livestock production, intensive rotational grazing management, organic gardening and "value-added" product development and production.

Goals & Objectives

We aspire to become a "hub" for exploring every improved efficient use of our resources, closer to nature's model of "no waste" systems; continually expanding our and others' knowledge and understanding of sustainable practices and enterprises.  By doing this and always looking for new and better ways to live, work and play on this small piece of this earth that we have, we will be working to improve local food system security and improve our rural economic and educational base.

About Mildred Williams

Mildred is a retired educational diagnostician.  Mildred, known to family as "Tia", and Jack Williams bought Rainbow Ranch in 1970.  She conducted summer camps for special needs children for several years.  She also taught special education for ED majors at Highlands University in intensive "workshop" form at the ranch during the late 70's and early 80's.  Tia, a young 80-something, takes part in daily operations throughout most of the year. Winters are spent in warmer spots with other family members.

Jack passed away in June 2006 and is greatly missed.
